Thought on this PC ? Ultra tight budget (200€)

Hello there,

So I'm getting a new PC, but I'm really short on budget (180-200€)

Let's be clear: I don't plan on gaming on this pc on the near future, I have an Xbox One S for gaming, but because PC master race, I will eventually upgrade the graphics card later for something like a RX 470 or GTX 1050

I'll use Windows 10, Ubuntu and macOS (I checked, this PC is compatible with macOS)

So, for 160€, I found this pc:

Dell Precision T3500

Intel Xeon W3680 - 6 core - 12 threads - 3,33GHz - LGA 1366

NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800, but I'll use a GT 730 (And I KNOW, it's a shitty overpriced card but a friend gave it to me, I don't need much graphics power, just macOS graphics acceleration and triple monitor support)

12GB of DDR3

320GB HDD (I'll use my actual 240GB SSD and a 1TB HDD as OS boot drive and storage)

Dell SAS Card

Do you think it's worth it ? I'm in France, so prices are higher than in the US or Canada

Also, for 180€ I found an Optiplex 790 MT with a i7 2600 and 8GB of RAM, but I think the W3680 is better than the 2600 even with its older architecture thanks to its 2 more core, am I right ?

And the Precision have 500W PSU with PCI-e 6pin connector, while the 790 have a shitty 300W PSU with no 6/8-pin, so that eliminate the need of buying a PSU for upgrading the graphics card for something better

The 790 is maxed out CPU wise, it will not take a better CPU as it don't support Ivy Bridge, but the T3500 will take up to an 8 core Xeon W5590

Thanks for your further help :) (PS: Sorry if I made grammar error, I'm French, only 17 and didn't studied much in English class)

i suggest DDR4 ram and a ryzen 3 2200g (or 5 2400g) for the iGPU..

speaking of which the iGPU of Ryzen 3 2200g (Vega 8 ) is MUCH better than the gt 730

plus, the Ryzen 3 2200g is only $99

Yeah the GT730 is shit, a Ryzen would of course be better

So I looked at it, it's way more than I can spend (or what I have for that matter, that's why I thought of buying an old prebuilt workstation)

CPU+MB+RAM+PSU+Case ('cause I don't have neither a case or a PSU), and that comes at 350€, I know I'm being cheap but I really don't have much to spend..

I'd love to get new PC with actual component, but at the moment I just can't buy it :/

And on top of that, macOS is such an hassle to get running stable on AMD CPUs (tho I can ignore that and run Windows 10 as my main OS, it's really getting better and better)

If you already have some kind of device save up a bit and get a bare minimum R3 2200G system

You can probably find a decent used PSU and SSD/Hard drive to get the price down

much better for the long run, and it'll actually run games just fine without a GPU

Yeah..

It might be a better idea

And I already have the SSD and Hard Drive from my actual PC, so I can remove that from the list

I wanted to get a complete system now because my actual Core 2 Duo is driving me nuts, it lag, lag and lag, even on basic task like web browsing (as I usually have lots of tabs opened on Safari, plus Spotify, it doesn't seems much to handle but it struggle with that) and since I'm doing computer-assisted music, I really need a more powerful system

But patience is a great virtue as the saying goes..

If the PSU in that machine isn't crap then you just need the APU/Asrock Pro4/3000mhz DDR4

It's a Dell Optiplex SFF PC so proprietary PSU (and only 250W), so that's not a possible solution x)

Plus I would still need a case x)

But I'm going to work this Christmas, so I could get a better PC later (at least 1500€ budget), I guess the T3500 would be a temporary solution, I'm trying to get the best bang for the buck

I'd say that I'm kinda lost between the urge to get a more powerful system (which I think is understandable) and the will to not waste my money too much

Just start with the cheap APU system which will be fine for gaming and is easy to upgrade. Just need the PSU then in my above example build.

The only motherboards to consider are the ASrock Pro 4 or MSI Tomahawk, the Tomahawk has a bit better VRM for if you upgrade to say a Ryzen 3000 8 core next year.

and the RX 600 series of GPUs will be out soon, can either get one of those or a cheap last gen one in the near future.

Yeah, thanks again ^^

But as I said, I don't plan on gaming on it, I have a Xbox One S, and honestly I only use it for YouTube/Netflix, even tho I guess it's still completely valid CPU wise ^^

Better to have the option of PC gaming than to not have it, especially when the price is so low for the APU PC.

I completely agree with you on that point ! ^^

And there's a lot of free indie games on PC that I'd love to try, nothing really serious tho

Oh and yeah, it's true that I play (or at least try to play, because with my actual PC..) a lot of emulation (NES/SNES/N64/GameCube/Wii/PS1/PS2); but I think those mostly rely on CPU when emulated on original resolution

I'm not really into modern gaming but I love my oldies :D
