Optain and M.2 SSD

Hi all 

I'm just starting my build and interested in the intel optain drives. I have a Samsung 970 pro SSD to install into my system, but I don't want to install my whole steam library onto it. Im thinking of going for some HHD around 3TB or so but if I install an optain drive along with my SSD will it affect the performance of the SSD? And will it increase the performance of the HHD? I have had a look at the performance of the intel optain and it far from the performance of the SSD.  Is there a way of configuring the optain to only work with the HHD and not affect the SSD? Im installing them into a ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X HERO.

I am pretty sure you can use the 970 pro to do a similar thing as optane using Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
