Power Supply Recommendations

My family and I have been planning on building my dad a new pc for christmas, and I’ve been put on part gathering duty. I’ve built a PC or two in the past, but now I’ve run into a problem. His current rig has a 650 watt power supply, and I’m not sure it’ll be enough. I will be overclocking the system, not only to pull as much performance out of the system as possible, but because he’s always wanted to try his hand at it, especially since he was the one who got me into PC building. The new system is going to consist of a Ryzen 2600, an EVGA GTX 1080 Hybrid, 16 Gb of G.skill RGB RAM, a Cooler Master AIO, and some other accompanying rgb fans. I want to make sure we can push the components as far as they can and not have to worry about maxing out the power supply. Last thing I want is anything to go wrong on Christmas morning. we just want him to be super stoked about his well deserved battle station. Thanks guys!

650w is plenty for that, but what quality and model is your psu ?

A 650W PSU is more than enough. I use a 650W PSU for my i7-8700k and GTX 1080.

 

What's your budget and currency?

I dont remember the brand, but the rating was either 80+ bronze or silver, it definately wasnt gold. And id prefer to stay with the current one, but $100 to $125-ish would be the budget

It depends on the Quality of the PSU; the Wattage is not relevant as you could use a high quality 350W PSU with that rig.

But since there are no good quality 350W, 400-450W is the lowest there is.

A 450W Bitfenix Formula would be better than a 650W Enermax Triathlor ECO because Wattage is less relevant these days than the quality of the PSU.

In case you want to buy a new one, this one is good and reliable (for $80 at the moment)

That thing is meh and it looks like the 4 +12V Rails are a lie as they didn't use the needed Supervisior IC...
