BSOD's on new PC

wcm.alex

I purchased a new HP Omen Gaming Desktop 870-224 at BestBuy near my home, it was out of the box. I purchased it for a bit of gaming, but mostly HTML coding. I started messing around, and while I was installing Chrome, my computer crashed, with a BSOD Stop Code: IRQL_DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I didn't know what to do... I optimized the hard drive Windows OS was on because apparently it was 6% Fragmented. But then I got other kinds of BSOD's like "BAD_POOL_HEADER" and "BAD_POINTER_REFERENCE." I got some "memory" BSOD's. I don't want to return the PC, so I wanted to ask Linus Tech Tip fans on what I should do other than returning the pc. I don't want to spend money on "repair tools" and all my drivers are already up-to-date. Anyone know what to do?

I would, but I don't want their "Geek Squad" taking up most of my money when they will really just replace the hard drive. I can do that myself, but, I wanna fix the BSOD's for experience in the future if someone else has the same kind of problem....

No warranty with open box? That sucks

Backup your files and reinstall a fresh copy of Windows

I attempted to fully reset the drive, but it wont let me. It launches Automatic repair, it boots to reset the pc, but it crashes at resetting, and nothing resets.

If only you the product code for your Windows license. Then you could just do a fresh install from a usb boot kit. That's what I always do when I have tried everything and just want to make sure it isn't something software related.

I doubt it, I think it most likely might be software related. All the hardware is already checked and I checked it already...

I know this is a late response, my apologies. I took it to best buy and told geek squad to reinstall the OS. 3 or 4 days later, I got it back and expected 0% BSOD's. It still happened. I took my Dell Inpsiron Desktop and just put the HD in there and took a Dell installation disk and repaired it from there. Geek squad has gotta improve their stuff. Either get better OS installers or something. Because its missing a lot of drivers until I repaired it myself.
