If the light bothers you, getting a different monitor won't help much. Something like Blue light filtering lenses will help though.

Aren't those just a bunch of BS? If you want to avoid eye strain just look at a a dark spot for a few seconds every 10 minutes or so, or just get peripheral lighting

No, they're actually useful. Like sunglasses filter UV light, high energy light (Blue and some purple) are filtered out by glasses like the spektrum glasses.
