windows 10 doesn't register Ethernet cable

I have an ethernet cable running from my router to my computer but but there is no internet connection. When using Ubuntu it connects just fine, but running Windows 10 troubleshooter it says please connect ethernet cable

Have you installed the driver for your ethernet card yet?

nope i havent made any changes it worked last night and when i turned it on this morning nothing

What does ipconfig give you?

Could be a negotiation issue. Go to device manager, right click on the network card and go to properties > advanced. Find the entry called Speed & Duplex, and try forcing the speeds. If it works on forced 100Mbps duplex but not on gigabit, that's your issue.

not sure why every other reboot didnt work but after booting into ubuntu and then back to win 10 it works again
