Cheap Point and Shoot camera :]

Hey,

 

I'm doing a lot of travelling over the next couple months and I want a inexpensive point and shoot camera but i'm unsure what i should be looking for!

For most of my other photo needs i've just been using my smartphone (LG G5 + Camera Mod) - which has been fine but lately my battery struggles to last me the day (2 batteries) which isn't a problem until i get lost in a city with no power for GPS!

 

So anything 16MP and between £100-£150 ($130-$200)

I'm using Canon SX270 HS. It has "only" 12MP, but I tested three others before I bought this one. First some cheap Nikon, then Fuji, then some other crap - and what was worst that they was not better than good smartphone cameras. So this one (SX270) at least makes clear photos. And all settings including "manual". 16MP in "point and shoot" is a lie.

Sony WX220.  18.2MP, 10x zoom, and 1080p video for around $200.  Use one at work for documenting cars for restoration and IMO it's the best in the price range.

Dont worry about MP, honestly unless you are printing something or plan to crop your photos, 5MP is enough..  so 12v16 is nothing noticable.  

 

 

I would got with the G series from canon if you are handy with manual settings.. it also has AUTO as well..

 

 

anything G10+ will suffice,  you can get used ones for quite cheap and they will last forever.

I'd get something like the Olympus Tough series.

Spend the money on a battery bank or two rather than a point and shoot at that price. You will end up using your phone anyway in the end, and it will probably perform better than the point and shoot in most situations.

 

In short, most $150 point and shoots have no distinguishable benefit from a modern phone's camera.
