right now my local store is selling it on sale for around 600 cad (470 usd)

That's a ripoff: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/CdTrxr/zotac-geforce-gtx-1080-8gb-mini-video-card-zt-p10800h-10p

Look for used 1080s on the used market, or wait a few months for the price 10 series cards to drop.

nVidia has a lot of GTX10xx cards that were produced during the mining craze, that's one of the reasons the prices for the gtx20xx cards are so high these days, they want to sell the old stock.

Prices may go down a bit during the next weeks, but i doubt they'll go down by much because nvidia has little competition at that performance point.

Maybe some $30 drop till the end of the year? I'd say buy now, or else supply of 10 series (they are no longer produced) might run out.

Depends on the exact model he's buying. I mean, Zotac's mini card is one of the cheapest built 1080 you can find.

Considering the current price of the GeForce 20 cards plus the demand for GeForce 10, I don't have my hopes up that prices for GeForce 10 cards will drop significantly any time soon. If anything, they'll likely float around MSRP until the next generation really gets into full swing.

Honestly I got a sale on one of my gpus before black Friday and it was cheaper than the black Friday price. I honestly think black Friday sales for tech is kinda lack luster tbh.
