You don't need a key to activate Windows 10 during installation if it was previously installed and activated on the laptop before. Once connected to the internet it will activate.

If you do not have a key, you can find one for cheap <link removed>

The "right way to format" depends on your storage medium. But generally, unless you want to secure erase it to permanently delete sensitive data on it, a quick format during install will do just fine.

If you have laptop with Win10 or Win7/8/.1 upgraded, you don't need key. It will automatically reactivate when you have installed OS. You need new if you change motherboard, or want different type (Home vs Pro).

You format drive during install process when selecting drive/partition to install to. For this you need to run installation from external drive, like bootable USB. You can't format drive/partition you are currently booted on.

Never would believed that you would advertise shady site with referral link. Thats site is worse than regular cheap key sites as they blatantly and proudly say they are willing to break other services ToS to make money.

The referral link wasn't mine, didn't even notice it there seeing it so short. I literally just copy/pasted it from Dlcompare, which shows you various websites with the cheapest price for the software/game you want to buy.(both grey market and regular stores).

I'll be honest, I just went to trustpilot to see what others thought of the site and it had a 8.6/10 score with over 4000 reviews. But yes, I agree it's shady AF seeing what they are doing by selling what is likely pirated accounts... But I figured it wouldn't matter if what OP wanted was just a Windows key and it says it was a "serial code" and not a "microsoft account" that would be activating windows.

a. Enter key and it activates. Or don't even enter key - it should be in your BIOS so if you have right version (home or pro) thet it will work.

b. Right way is not to reformat, but use your existing operaing system and focus on better computer work.

That's my ideas.
