Yeah that's pretty much it, I need recommendations for a phone valued between 200-300$CAN, gonna be using it in a bring your own device contract. Texting and browsing the web will be it's main purpose, maybe a bit of light games, nothing CPU intensive that's for sure. I'm mostly looking for the best value I can get per dollar spent.

Thks!

Samsung has some cheaper phones. My friend has a J3 I think it's called and it's not bad for a mid range phone. Might have the wrong model number but have a look around on their website.

If you can get a hold of one, the Pocophone seems like the best deal right now

Is the OP still searching for a phone?

If so, Koodo has an LG G6 for $360 (CAN) and that’s pretty darn good. The phone is 0 upfront and then $15 month for 24 months which equals $360. This phone absolutely humiliates the puny Samsung J3 and doesn’t cost much more.

See if you can get a last gen flagship like the LG G6 like @kokakolia suggested or see if you can get the Pocophone, a great deal, Samsung's cheap phones suck don't buy them. The Essential Phone is also a beautiful device with good hardware if you can find one.

You can do even better! Get the Huawei P20 through the Koodo Tab for $360 cad right now. Koodo has some sick deals until Oct 18.

What about the legendary Xiaomi Mi A2? The top version seems like a beast, and you could get it for as little as $240 on AliExpress.

I have it well my mom does,

Pros - No notch, great screen, USB type C, Android One and SD 600, great cameras for the price as well.

Cons - No headphone jack, no expandable storage and a bad ambient light sensor(causes phone screen to turn on and off during calls, its slightly misplaced but you should get used to it)

I think it supports Quick Charge but even with stock 5V 2A charger it takes about 1h 25 min from 15% to 100%. Battery life is great about 5-6 hours of screen on time depending on GPS usage and screen brightness. It gets pretty bright and dim as well.

Not a bad pick if you don't mind the two cons. However the Pocophone F1 is a better performer, maybe worse in camera department but plastic build means it should handle any amount of rough use.

Pocophone F1

Insanely good for the price with a Snapdragon 845, but it streams netflix in only 720p.

It does have a crappy plastic back though which is a pretty major con.
