Can my PC run HTC Vive?

So the htc vive lists some minimum specs, which i have or beat. the question is if my hardware can reliably run the vive at a usable fps and performance? I am new to VR so i dont really know much about it, other than people claiming i need a ridiculous PC to run it.

 

I have a i7 6700k, RX 480 8GB, 16GB ram, sata SSD

CPU, fine.

GPU, on the low end but should be ok for most things. 

Ram ok.

SSD ok (can run off HD if you can put up with loading times)

 

I did try running Vive on an under-spec system before (970M). In that case I had a weird display jitter presumably as it couldn't do the frames fast enough.

 

Are you set on the Vive? Although I have one, and do like it, I understand the Rift has more software tricks to allow it to run on lower hardware more easily.

as a Vive owner I gotta say, you GPU is possibly a touch underpowered. The gtx 970 is bare minimum, and the 480 comes close to that. Your CPU is perfectly fine, so if VR performance is not up to your standards, saving up for something like a 1070 would be the way to go, but evaluating it first would be the best idea.

The RX 480 is faster than a GTX 970, so you'll be fine. Just don't expect to be running maxed out settings or adding supersampling.

Easily. I've played the Vive on a 7970.

Sure, just depends on the game. "To The Top", for example, requires very little. My 980 and 6600k can barely even feel that game running.
