Went straight to a well known college (went for a non it degree that I'm not currently using, but that's not the most important part.)

Bombed it cuz i had no exp with studying in grade school and did just fine. spent the rest of college trying to develop study skills during a hard adjustment to college life. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH how STUPID of an idea this was, given my lack of experience with harder college coursework!!! PLEASE DON'T DO THIS, pay for the extra time! Back to the semester: I know that my senior project will be writing based and I SUCK at essay/academic writing. So I spend the whole summer writing 90% of my paper (minus results and conclusion of course) and come into the class with most of a paper written. I did a project on water filtration and literally spent some of summer vacation touring local water purification plants in my municipality. I spend all semester perfecting it, adding my results and conclusion, working the most on the methodology section, because that's most of the grade. I went to the library and got people to help me perfect it. All the while I neglected homework in 2 of my classes, both by the same teacher who was lecture based about concepts. Great class and I learned a lot, but the HW was small little things, a paragraph here, a drawing there, but LOTS of it. It overwhelmed me and I didn't do most of it. I was too busy with an academic essay to worry about a paragraph or a drawing. So I graduate, walk the stage, had a feeling it wasn't going to be good enough (graduation is done ceremonially before all teachers get a chance to grade everything, so it's not final and I hate this process). I got to PA, where my wife is finishing school and I find jobs up there. I get the call. I failed those two classes and the senior capstone is a c wall class, I got a C-.

Now I contact my teachers to see what can be done.

If you care at all about your education, please ask! you'd be surprised at how much teachers are willing to work with you! If they can tell you want to do better and succeed, they will help you succeed in any way they can

Back to the story: the teacher with two classes knows I'm smart and knows I want to succeed despite my lack of devotion to his class. He gives a list of HW I missed, just asks me to do it and he'll fix it. OK I'm clear, all good! whew!

now some may say I am a quitter for this, but I gave up because of that. Academic writing is my worst skill period. I would be a better coal shoveler than an essay writer. If there's one thing I know, It's my limits. I knew 100% that I could fix those 2 classes, but I could not do any better on that methodology. And you have to remember I literally spent months before the class started writing it, spent all semester tweaking and perfecting it, with help from library staff and the on campus essay writing helpers. If he had said a different section of the paper I would have done it, but there was nothing left for me to give that section of the paper, and I knew it.

So here I am, 3 classes short of a degree I'm not even into anymore, working my way up. I went through a lot of staffing/factory jobs that ruined both my finances and confidence. I have lots of credit card debt, and that's after my parents bailed me out of a lot of it. I caught my first break working for staples as an easy tech. I told myself if I got that job I would never work in a factory again, and that's held. I worked at staples for 2 years part time 9.30/hr. because of my lack of education and decent job, my wife has been the primary breadwinner, even though she wants to stay home with the kids. She went to school for sociology and early childhood development, but hasn't been able to use it (no one told her that without a masters in that field, it's pretty much useless for finding jobs). I gained a lot of confidence at staples because I was finally doing something I was good at. But I needed more money, so I move to a call center company, taking calls full time for nike at 12/hr. I worked there for a little less than a year, and in that time moved into apps and devices for nike, and I got my A+ certificate. I have now been working for lowes for a few months now and love it. I make 15/hr, which is ok, but this is after working my way up for the last 6 years to get here. And even with this pay amount, my wife has to keep working due to the amount of debt I caused us working in factory jobs and losing jobs over the years. I don't mean this to be a sob story, but if I can prevent other people from having this happen, i'll take the judgement happily.

Very informative even if it is a select case. I think I am trying to not set myself up for failure. I had an apprenticeship working in IT for over a year and learned I didn't want to do that because I could already do everything and I didn't even have a GED at the time. I was making $10.50/hr though

Just keeping this here as a backup
