Hi..

It's now time to upgrade my PC.
I have an I7-3930k cpu, will it be able to run with a new gpu (1080ti / 2080 / 2080ti) or do I need to upgrade it all?
My plan is to upgrade it all, but I hope I can upgrade a bit at a time.

My current system looks like this.

XF    X ProSeries Core Edition 650W psu.
ASUS P9X79
Intel® Core i7-3930K
 Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 16 gb
 MSI GeForce GTX 680 4GB

If you're not playing at 1080p and your CPU is overclocked it should be pretty much fine, however there will be a slight bottleneck in some games due to fairly low singlethreaded performance of that CPU.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

OC it and be happy. The 3930k is still a capable CPU, i run one.

As for single thread perofrmance. Don't be so sure its that far behind. Once OCed it can do well.

My one for example matches a i5 7640x / i9 7900x (rank 20/21) with a moderate OC (4.6ghz)

obviosly if you run it stock it will be behind (rank 303 stock)

EDIT: Oh and for overall performance once OC'ed it can match a i7 8700k, so its still relevant.

if you are playing at 1080p it will probably bottleneck a bit but i wouldnt be too woried tbh

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
