Pre order cancelation

MANDINGO

You can get a used 1080 ti for 500-600 USD, and a new one for a little over 600(although now that we know how mediocre 2080 performance is 1080ti prices will be rising). Given this why on earth would anyone blow an extra 200-300 dollars on a 2080? It just makes no sense, even if you have money to burn. Ray tracing is a joke at this stage. The one game its featured prominately in(BFV) it cant even manage 60fps at 1080p using the 2080ti, nevermind the 2080, and nevermind 1440p or 4k. Ray tracing is about as important to serious gamers right now as animojis were to iPhone fans last year.  Nobody not named Avram Piltch would buy a GPU right now because of ray tracing.

Hopefully AMD's 7nm Navi restores some sanity to GPU pricing in 2019, but we've been disappointed by AMD so many times in recent years this doesn't seem likely. One can hope though.

Meh...a new decent 1080ti is $650 and 2080 is $800.  $150 (20% price increase) for ~10% performance increase and RTX/DLSS capabilities.  I think some reactions are a little overblown, but value is in the eye of the beholder.

Keeping my 2080 pre-order to upgrade from my 1080 FE for a number of reasons. Been on this 2 year upgrade plan for a while now so it was time anyway and I'll be in line for the battle that's going to be 2020 when Intel enters the market. I also have a pretty strict rule on not buying pre-owned cards so the current price of the 1080ti I would consider is only going to save me around $100-80 (US) when all is said and done. I can easily leave that difference up to "hope" tax in that more games take up the dlss which has already shown great promise in games I'm interested in.

Also I've just always been pretty into Nvidia's FE card designs for a while now and this one is no different. They look great in my case and this cooler has already shown to get better thermals than any other FE models which is another plus.

So yeah, this should set me up nicely for some 1440p high refresh fate gaming until 2020. I fully understand where most are coming from in their criticisms but the potential benefits for me outweigh the extra bucks. Just blessed to be at a point in my life where my wallet can take it.

Waiting for 7nm personally. I don't plan on going 4k any time soon and the only game with RTX coming out that I care about is Metro Exodus which will only just use it for diffuse global illumination iirc.

If Cyberpunk were to release with RTX support before 7nm Nvidia cards release then that's when I'll buy a non-FE 2080TI, but that is extremely unlikely.

apples to oranges comparison

It's much more realistic. The new FE cards have nicer coolers and are overclocked out of the box.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

Keeping my 2080 Ti pre-order.

Price, as high as it was, wasn't really that big of a concern.

That, and I wanted the highest jump in performance I could get coming from my 980 Ti that I bought way too near the end of that generation's life.

Sadly, I do have to admit that a 2080 right now just doens't make a lot of sense.

But if you want the best performance in a consumer card, then you know that always comes at a premium.

Benchmarks were done today and bf5 is averaging 100fps on 4k ultra. That is pretty damn good since I love to play on 4k
