What to look for when buying used Graphics Card

Garrzilla

I'm looking for a GTX 1080 Ti FE, specifically on eBay. The main thing I look for is the seller's star count, and ask them if It was used for mining.

If the seller says it has been used to mine crypto, is there anything I should ask or is it an automatic no deal? Is there anyway for the seller to prove it hasn't been used for mining?

Ask for a personal warranty for 7 days or something in case the card fails.

Ask him to run a benchmark on it with standard settings, if it passes with ok scores n stuff and you can be sure it did, you're set, otherwise just look for one that wasnt used for mining. Also like someone else said go for EVGA

What benchmark would you recommend? Is the Open GL Cinebench test fine? And what would a standard 1080 Ti score so I can compare

Alright, I will look. Is it fine if it was bought directly from Nvidia? Or is the warranty not as good?

Nope, EVGA is the only one with a warranty like that afaik

The listing should show if the seller takes returns, in case there is a problem.  Takes returns is a selectable option in the filter, so that cuts a lot of potential problems out for you.  Check for any damage in pictures.  I saw listing for broken cooling fans and chipped power connectors.  I just bought a used 1070 for $237.  It should be here next Thursday-Saturday.  I'll let you know how it worked out.

I installed the used graphics card today and after installing the nvidia drivers, I had no problems.  I'm very happy with how this worked out.

If they have a good rating I wouldn’t worry about it. If they say it in working condition, you will be covered when a dispute is opened. Doesn’t matter if it was used to do certain stuff. All that matters if the temp it was at.

If they will run a unigine benchmark for you, while recording it and showing the serial number for the card somehow in the same clip. That’s the only way that could help you.

I bought a used 1070 off ebay and its been fine. Not saying this will be the case for you but still. also, a lot of miners dont OC their cards much if at all since the pay off is little, and the chance of failure is high, so untimatley it raises the chances of not getting a return of money in case the cards breaks, so most just run them at stock, meaning it wont be worn out. Again, you may get unlucky and buy a brick or near brick so just be carefull. See if the seller has a 99% or higher rating. Thats what ive done and ive never had issues.
