I mean, there really isn't an option besides the Hyper 212 EVO. It is the best in that price range no doubt.

 

 

 

EDIT: I guess if you won't get the 212 EVO, the Dark Rock 2 is good

What about the Hyper 212 Plus?

It's a good one as well, but with an older design with separated heat pipes. Not that great for thermal transfer.

Hey guys, quick question.  What would you say the best CPU cooler for under 50 USD would be?  I have a friend who is building a rig with a 4670k, and doesn't know what to buy.

 

Please, don't talk only about the Hyper 212.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'll look into the EVO and the Dark Rock 2.  The reason I didn't really want any responses on the 212 series is because I already knew they were good coolers.  I just wanted to hear other ideas and options :P

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is really your only option if you want a good sub-$50 CPU cooler. There's not a lot of competition in terms of really quality CPU coolers in that price range, to my knowledge. Most people just end up using stock coolers. Reviews suggest that the Phanteks PH-TC12DX is also a very good cooler, and I'm looking at a Newegg page that's selling it for $50 right now. Plus it comes in a variety of colors. Value-wise, little can beat the 212 EVO. But if you pony up some more money, you'll find far more excellent coolers like the Be Quiet! Dark Rock 2, Thermaltake Frio, and Noctua NH-U12S.

 

And also, the Dark Rock 2 is not under $50. I don't know why people keep suggesting it. It's a great CPU cooler, but not under $50. I've very rarely seen it for $50 on NCIX's website.
