Nvidia drivers, update or clean installation?

  1. 1. When a new driver update is available, do you just update the driver or perform a clean installation?

I update. I clean install only when I am changing my GPU or having issues with the current driver.

Unless i NEED a specific upate for a new game, or i hear of significant performance gains across the board (never happened) i dont bother updating. More often than not it creates more problems than it solves.

For example.

Monster Hunter World.

Nvidia released game ready drivers for it, and considering how poorly MHW performs (horrible port), I decide to give the newer drivers a go hoping for better performance.

I went from somthing like 390.77 to 398.82, so rather old to new.

It made things worse so i ended up having to use DDU to downgrave to 398.36 which is what im at now and it has the same performance as my old 390.77. So the whole thing was effectivly a waste of time.

if im upgrading drivers, unless theres a specific known reason to do a clean install, i just update. Downgrading obviosly requires a clean install using DDU.

The same goes for Windows, i have updates dissabled and only ever update if a i NEED them, since the vast majority of the updates just bloat windows and add data collection, some even make performance worse.
