LGA775 pc build in 2018

Hey Guys,

So inspired by scrapyard wars i planned on building a pc for gaming with used parts. i am so far successful i would say.

i spent so far around 50$ and got a gigabyte G41m motherboard which has ddr3 ram slots and the core 2 duo e8400..

install my old ram which i had and a old gt710..

i still have money that i can spend .. around 100$ running on a old crt moniter which is a 720p resolution.. will be getting a 1080p moniter down the line.. how can i improve my setup .. better quad core than q6600? better graphics card for 1080p gaming...

  • Duct tape overclocking. (Google tapemod)
  • 1050/1050ti
  • High Frequency DDR3, (as high as your board ACTUALLY supports, this will likely not be documented, only "recommended")

i can spend around 150$ i dont think extreme editions are a option.coz i wont be overclocking .. i am just going to be playing games at 1080p max.. extreme edition is not a going to help me with price to performance point of view.. also those things are not easily available..

Does higher frequency ram help in gaming? coz i already got 8gb ram which i didnt pay anything for..

New 1050ti will cost around $180. It'll also be bottlenecked by your CPU anyway. You'll be better off going used considering the rest of the build

See if you can find someone nearby selling used 750/760 or 950.

Since you got it for free, use the 8gb that you already have. You'd be better off spending money on GPU and CPU before ram.

As for the core2duo, see if you can replace it with a cheap core2quad like a q9500 or at least q6700. You should be able to get the CPU for <$20 which leaves $80 for a used GPU.

See if you can pick up a used LCD 1080p monitor on Craigslist or Facebook buy swap pages for $10.

What are you hoping to do with the machine once you build it?

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Run Crysis 3.. lol..

mostly games and Programming softwares.. i could not afford a new pc or a laptop for 400$ so settled for this... this pc is pretty good so far... but still i want to change it to a quad core which is better than Q6600.. planning to get Q9550 and looking for a good deal.. will Q9550 bottleneck a gtx1050? which Graphics card will be a better value for money pairing with a core2Quad processor?

Shouldn't bottleneck it too badly.

Given the budget I'd look for older graphics cards though, see if you can find a good deal on some 2nd hand cards like Nvidia GTX 750ti/GTX 760/GTX 950 or AMD HD7870/R9 270. They'll perform pretty close to the 1050 and you should be able to get them for less.
(Just make sure you buy legitimate branded cards locally, and not the fake cards on ebay from China)

Good luck :D

One thing to keep in mind, and AFAIK it shouldn't be a problem with Crysis 3, is that some modern games (or their DRM protection) require SSE4.1/SSE4.2 instruction sets that the older Core2Quad CPUs do not have. Without it, the game may refuse to launch at all.
Have a read of these threads if you want more info.

I put together a Q9400 and 750 Ti system a couple weeks ago that was very well balanced. If you get a 1050 Ti it's going to be heavily bottlenecked though. I wouldn't get anything better than a 960 with it.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!
