Is there any reason why I get lag/stutter spikes playing 1080@60 on a 4K display and not on a 1080p display?

Hello.

I will start off with the monitors I using:

 

They are both PC monitors. One is an (4K) LG 27" 27UK600 HDR FreeSync and the other (1080p) is an ASUS 23.8" PB238Q

 

I have some issues playing 1080@60 gaming on a 4K display. I tested games like Assassin's Creed Origins, GTA V, Homefront: The Revolution...etc, on my 4K display. I was getting crazy lag, frame drops and spikes. I set my Nvidia CP to 1080@60 and set my game at 1080@60. I received the same results. The settings I tested we're from Ultra to Medium with custom settings, as well.

 

So, I decided to switch to my 1080p 60Hz monitor. I fired it up and tested Assassin's Creed Origins first...on Ultra settings. I got a very stable 60fps with no lag, drops or stutters. I tested a few other games mentioned and had the same results.

 

Is there any reason for this? I am disappointed that I cannot play a stable game on the 4K display, but I will surely take a stable frame rate any day. Does having FreeSync have anything to do with it?

NVidia and freesync don't play together

switch off freesync and use it as a standard monitor

 

unless I read your post wrong then ignore me completely

If FreeSync is enabled, then it could be acting strange because of that.

If it isn't, then something else is up.

Thank you. I turned off FreeSync and everything seems to be okay now. Thank you!
