I've got a 3570k not yet overclocked with a 1070 at 1440p. I'm just starting to get bottlenecks. Friend has a 1080 and a 4670k at 4k.

However I'd suggest something newer.

Second hand is also a great way of saving money.

An i3 8100 stays between 70% to 99% in most games, but the gpu is always at 99% so i guess you can say it bottlenecks it, but only in cpu bound games. For all the games i saw benchmarked, only the witcher 3 got up to 99% everything else was under 85%

So you're planning on buying a 1070 but haven't decided on the CPU yet? On topic, an i5-8400 won't be the cheapest but it's a good match with the 1070. You can always upgrade to an 8700k in the future too.

1070 @ 1440p for 60 fps you'll have to drop settings for most games

1080 @ 4K gotta enjoy the low fps in most games

4670k... would bottleneck even a gtx 1060

Well if were looking at it at that perspective, the r5 1600 is simular (yes the i5 is faster in most games because of single core performance) but its cheaper, the mobo for it is cheaper, and you can always upgrade to a 3rd Gen ryzen when it comes out because it will use the same socket.

i would suggest a  r 1400 or 1500x neither will bottle neck a 1070 a good b350 mobo and u can easily oc to 3.8 on stock cooling

Second hand older i7s. 2600K and up should be able to handle a 1070 just fine especially if you overclock them.

For new chips the i5 8400 or R5 1600 is about as low as you wanna go.

Title says all

the lowest i'd go used is 2600k, or anything above it with hyperthreaded, overclocked to 4.4.

As for new CPUs, r5 1600 and i5 8400 is the lowest i'd go.

You guys really don't under stand system bottle necks, this video shows a weeee 1300x pushing a 100 plus fps on 1080ti, yes i5 i7 gaming performance is better but for dollar per frame you can't beat a r1400/1500 and the higher your resolution goes you get in to gpu limits not cpu

9th generation i7s are supposedly compatible with Z370 motherboards too.
