Hey all! Doing a new build soon and trying to decide between the cards. My budget is a bit tight about it is about 1k USD. I have a 1440p 144hz freesync monitor I got for $150 from a friend so I want to use AMD. I am torn between rx580 and vega 56. I know the vega card is better at 1440p but with freesync would the rx580 be ok to game? I am mostly an esports/f2p gamer with some triple A games. Monster hunter and ghost recon most recently. Just trying to decide if the price difference is worth it for my needs.

Edit: This is the build minus the GPU

As long as you can solve the thermal issues with Vega 56, you should be fine. Undervolting should be all that has to be done there as far as I know.

The usual recommendation is to get the best card that will fit in your budget, so if the Vega doesn't go over your budget for too much, then I would say go for it.

The RX 580 may struggle at 1440p144, it's not much better than a 1060 6GB in performance.

A RX 580 is basically the equivalent of a 1060 and the Vega 56 is like a slightly better 1070 and slightly worse 1070 Ti. A 1060 will do fine at 1440p but you’ll probably have trouble reaching that 144fps in some more gpu intensive games. Esports games should be able to run near the target refresh rate so it all really just depends. I’d go for the better card if you can afford it so you don’t have any remorse if you’re still lacking some performance you might want. Otherwise the 580 if you wanna save money

I mostly want 100fps+ in esports games. In triple A I do not expect to hit even 75+ so I am leaning towards saving a few bucks and get a rx580 and maybe get an intel cpu instead or get a better cpu cooler like a dark rock pro 4.

Ryzen is probably more worth it if you’re going for a budget build so I’d stick with Ryzen. If you decide to go with the RX580 tho you’ll probably start to notice the smoothness difference between games that can run 100+ FPS and like 60+ sooo

Honestly your best bet to get the best performance out of your price is if you wait a bit until new hardware comes out and prices drop but who knows how long that’ll be :////

For Vega 56, this card is easilly the best looking and best price, but it still puts you at $1100

So you might need to stick to the RX580

I was looking at that exact card. It might be worth to go a little over. $100 can be recovered by changing the ssd to a none pcie one

Well i mean the 250GB PCI-E card you have in there right now is already only $100, so you can really only save about $50 going to sata3 SSD's in the 250 range....

But if you (ironically partially upgrade the PSU in quality) and change the case/SSD, you can keep under $1k

With a 580 you can easily hit 100+ fps in csgo and overwatch, but AAA games you might get 60-70 fps.

@TVwazhere a 450W for a system with a vega card? and a 6-core cpu?

Power consumption on the Vega 56 is rated at 180W. And the R5 2600 probably doesnt use more than 120W. Even if the system draws 350W from the wall, the corsair should have enough to power it all. @STRMfrmXMN should be able to confirm this (Vega 56 + R5 1600 < CX450M)

A Vega 56? That thing consumes a shitton of power overclocked. I wouldn't run a 450W PSU if I were OCing the system you're talking about.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
