Bitfenix Whisper M 850W PSU MB Cable

My Bitfenix Whisper M 850W PSU comes with a 18+10 to 25 pin cable. I am trying to attach the 18+10 side to my psu, but the slots labeled "motherboard" are vertically aligned and the retention clips must be oriented 180 degrees from each other. See this photo: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/bitfenix-whisper-m-series-850w-80-plus-gold-modular-power-supply-ca-22d-bx.html

The 18+10 side of the cable has the retention clips oriented in the same direction. The result is I can't plug the cable in to the psu. The manual is useless for guidance in this installation. The only solution I can see is by peeling the individual wires apart on the 18+10 side to give them more flexibility. Is this a standard thing to have to do? What solutions do you all suggest?
