  • The CPU and chipset market for gamers will continue to stagnate in the consumer segment, even more so now that AMD is following Intel into the 'Forest of mediocrity' of chip positioning. Intel's Haswell Extreme edition, now with entry level 6-cores and affordable 8-cores, will become - just as Intel has planned for 5 years, an incredible hit in 2014 compared to the two previous extreme edition line ups.
  • Mantle will be delayed at least until June 2014 and show marginal gains in minimum FPS and almost nothing in maximum FPS. Two camps of gamers will start to argue whether or not it made a difference, one side will claim that it wasn't worth the wait while the other will first devolve into grasping at straws as to how big the impact was in their isolated use case, then later "admit" (in the way only gamers do) that they may not have seen a big mantle impact BUT in the same breath try to shift the discussion on to that it's not mature yet and will get gradually better as time goes by.
  • DDR4 will, unlike previous new DRAM technologies, not launch at comparatively horrible prices, and will also be a noticeable improvement in overall memOPS straight out of the gate.
  • The new SATA standard will end up not being completely introduced this year into the mainstream. However, some high end motherboards will likely have a terrible off-chipset onboard controller for it, which will suck a LOT.
  • The Steam controller will be an instant hit in it's final incarnations and even the most skeptical gamers will be beaten into submission to admit they were wrong about it.
  • SteamOS remains a curiosity that won't see any real adoption rate throughout 2014, and with no incentive, Linux will still not catch on for gaming. Developers won't support it, apart from a couple. Among the Steamboxes however, a couple of Valve's hardware partners sees some encouraging success selling the hardware itself as pre-built solutions.

These are my current predictions for 2014. Got any of your own? Throw them in here, and you'll be able to show this thread off as proof if you're right  :P

Happy new year!

I think kaveri, and steam OS will allow hundreds of thousands of console gamers to upgrade to PC, and DDR4 will not be used until late 2014, or even 2015.I also think that Nvidia will release the 790, and AMD will release the 290X twin graphics processor equivalent, which will allow me to run Sli with the latest cards in my MITX Case. :)

1 agree

2 agree

3 unlikely will be cheaper.Companies wants to earn sweet cash, even if msrp is lower they still will sell it at crazy prices.

4 sata express you mean?

5 dunno

6 agree, the steamOS does not look modern either, looks very old school linuxy.

4 sata express you mean?

3. Didn't mean cheaper, just affordable compared to DDR2 and DDR3 launches, and not so sucky early DIMMs.

4. I meant the full Sata 3.2 (16 Gb/s) standard, of which Sata Express is a sub feature.

Half Life 3 will not be announced :)

I agree, but I would not be surprised at all to see something from Valve that finally introduces a new Source engine. I am so. sick. of. Source.

Uplay becomes less unpleasant.

Titanfall- The biggest letdown in video game history.

Uplay still exists? I must have missed it due to Ubisoft not making a single game that appealed to me in 5 years. (Except for Blood Dragon, which didn't appeal to me enough) Plus of course, I've been boycotting Ubisoft ever since they shut down the multiplayer on Heroes of Might and Magic V after only 6 months of live time. There is no more scummy publisher in video games.

I hardly believe Titanfall will be as disappointing on launch as Diablo III, SimCity or Age of Conan were. But I do agree that Titanfall is overhyped and not nearly as significant as people think.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
