Problem with router (very high ping)

turbopiki

hey guys i need your help, this problem started yesterday when i noticed it takes a long time for websites to open load, so i ran speedtest multiple time and i always got a ping around 1800ms, ping is the same via wi-fi or LAN port on router so i bypassed the router and connected my PC via LAN port directly on modem and my ping droped to normal ranges 5-10ms so somthing must be wrong with my router. Any ideas what could be wrong ?

router is TP-Link TL-WR841N

Might be a setting that needs changing, might be firewall, might be DNS.

What ping did you get if you connected your PC to your router and then pinged the router?

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

could be DNS as mentioned, or overloaded router

how many devices are connected to it?

using speedtest?

maybe try using command prompt to ping to your router

Like if you pinged the router as an endpoint, not via the router.

e.g.

ping 192.168.0.1

steps:

1) open command prompt

2) type "ipconfig" and press enter

3) look for the adapter you're using, and take note of the default gateway (your router)

4) ping your default gateway (type in "ping 192.168.x.x", where x is the number to your default gateway)

5) show results here

side note: dont show screenshot of your ipconfig

If the pin went high all of a sudden, it could just as well be that someone has gained unauthorized access to the router and is using it to crawl for more vulnerable devices. There are lots of vulnerabilities with the router you have.

192.168.0.1 might not be your router for your case, try what i mentioned (my router ip was 192.168.1.1, instead of 192.168.0.1)

If you're completely out of ideas just google how to change your DNS and use:

8.8.8.8 (google)

OR

 1.1.1.1 (cloudflare)

Want to know which mobo to get?

Might be your local DNS issue, try using Google DNS as suggested
