Is low RAM speed leading to low benchmark scores on my 1950X

Hey all.

I have recently built my 1950X rig. All running stable at 4Ghz with load temps of 60C.

However, ive noticed my CPU is getting lower benchmark scores than other systems.

I have an 8GB 2133Mhz kit of RAM installed.

My cinebench score is 2933 multi core and 149 single core. My geekbench score is 4000 single 20000 multi core

Is it the RAM thats holding my CPU back?

At 2133, yeah. At 4GHz/2933 I get around 3400 if I remember correctly.

im saving up for a 32GB kit of 3000Mhz RAM. Yes that might be the issue

2133 is going to bottleneck any memory intensive application. Have you tried OC'ing the memory?

Wait, do you have a 2x 4 Gb, dual-channel 2133 kit in there? Or just a single 2133 8 Gb stick in the system?

Either way its going to starve the CPU for bandwidth a lot if he is not taking advantage of Quad Channel

This is the RAM setup from my old X99 system. 2x4GB dual channel. Im saving up for a 4x8GB 32GB quad channel kit. What speed would you recommend?

Getting a 4 stick setup beyond 2933 is hard on most TR1s. 2666 is probably the key target, but 2933 is generally the place Ryzen see little benefit for going higher. So 3000 or 3200, whichever you can get a better deal on. Quad-channel will always be harder to run at the same speeds as dual-channel, but you get a lot more total bandwidth.

UPDATE: managed to successfully overclock the RAM from 2133 to 2666. Seen a decent improvement already
