Laptop for Photoshop

Hi guys

SO here is my situation, first I'm sorry if this is the wrong category for this but it seemed appropriate.

Basically a friend of mine works in the advertising industry and works with Photoshop on the daily, and is now due for a new laptop. I am relatively clued up with the internal hardware required and all that jazz, however what I am to knowledgeable about is the screens and the full color coverage and that stuff that Linus always talks about?

So I had been looking at the Lenovo IdeaPad 320, so I would like you editing gurus to tell me whether or not the screen of the IdeaPad 320 will be sufficient for photoshop in the advertising industry. Also feel free to make other suggestions of systems. Please and thank you.

If he wants something that's actually going to be decent for professional photo work, it's going to be expensive. Something as cheap as an Ideapad 320 simply won't cut it.

Something like the HP ZBook Studio G4 DreamColor is what you really should be looking at.

Like @dizmo said.
Rendering photo's, as well as having a smooth running workflow, takes a bit of horsepower.

So you'd have to look for a laptop with a good screen and has a bit of *UMPH* in it.

I’d get either a Dell XPS with the 4k monitor (the 1080 ones are not quite as good) or a Macbook pro

If the budget is for an ideapad pro 320, (which a quick google seach reveals is a £280 laptop) I hardly think a proper IPS 4k display with a wide colour gamut and preferrably precalibrated is reacheable. Basically, no noticeable difference at those prices, just get whatever you think is fine. May as well look at getting the best hardware for it screen is not something you can afford to fix.

If that is the budget its not really worth buying a new laptop tbh. Just a waste of money at that point as the performance gain will be insignificant most likley. If he does Ps work proffesionally he should save up a budget to get something good.
