Ryzen 5 2600x optimizing temps

Hi,

 

just got me a new Ryzen 5 2600x which is cooled by my old Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH Edition.

 

During Prime95 I'm reading 76-80° which seems to be a bit high for my taste.

 

I also wanted to OC the CPU for all core 4 to 4,1 Ghz but I don't think this would be possible with this cooler.

 

What kind of cooler would you recommend?

 

Here is my current PC Set Up if interessting:

Case Fractal Core 3300 (2x 140mm Front, 1x 140mm Top, 1x 140mm Back, 1x 120 mm Side. Front and Side in, the others out)

MSI X470 Gaming Plus

16 Gb G Skill Ripjaw V 3200 Mhz

Ryzen 5 2600x Stock with Mugen 4 PCGH

Windforce GTX 1080 Stock

Be Quite L8 530 Watt

undervolt the CPU first, default BIOS settings are prone to overshooting voltage.

Are you sure your heatsink is seated properly? What thermal paste are you using? The Mugen 4 is a good heatsink.

These look exactly like the temperatures i was seeing on my 2600X before i exchanged the stock cooler for an H80i.

I also thought the heatsink might not be seated corretly but I reinstalled it twice with always fresh applied thermal paste and nothing changed.

 

Also the footprint of the thermal paste on the cooler perfectly matched the cpu.

I'm using Arctic MX 4.

 

Fans on the heatsink are also mounted corretly, did check them several times :/.

mounting pressure?

so, I again reinstalled the cooler in two different ways.

 

First I loosened the screws a bit and saw increased temps. After detatching the heatsink I noticed an uneven spread of the thermal paste on it so I reseated it and tightened the screws untill they stopped moving and now I'm sitting on max 77.5° in Prime95 Large FFT without spikes.

 

I still think thats too high so it's time for a new cooler...

If that's the case, it's probably higher than necessary and the cause for your high temps? What's the core voltage at when using software like CPU-Z?
