Need Help Picking Parts ($800 Build) Not Sure About Some Parts :/

Hey! I'm new to building PCs and I've never done one before.

I picked out these parts after watching many videos on budget and normal PC builds.

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor $149.99
Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard $73.88
Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory $77.89
Storage: Western Digital - Blue 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $99.89

Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $43.50
Video Card: PNY - GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Video Card $229.00
Case: NZXT - S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case $59.99
Power Supply: Corsair - TXM Gold 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply $58.85

Case Fan: Corsair - Air Series White 2 pack 52.2 CFM 120mm Fan $19.57
Total: $812.56

The reason I wanted feedback is because I had a lot of trouble picking out some parts because I'm not familiar with them. For one, I'm not familiar with the quality of the power supply. Secondly, I have no clue if the motherboard is any good, as I'm used to seeing people use ASUS or MSI motherboards, and not ASRock. I've also heard a lot of people talking about how ASRock makes terrible motherboards. Lastly, I was wondering if the SSD was a good choice. I saw a video recommending it, but I've seen a majority of consumers buying Samsung SSDs. If you do prefer Samsung, why is it a good choice and which model should I get?

Oh, and I almost forgot, will any of these cause bottlenecks? I tried to make this build as balanced as possible.

Thank you so much in advance! I'm glad to be a part of such an amazing community! :)

Looking at this it seems like you did your homework.

  1. Take a look at LTT's PSU tier list. So according to people who know a lot more about PSUs than you or I do, you've got a T2, which is pretty nice. Good choice.
  2. You probably won't be OCing much, so you asrock should be decent.
  3. The WD Blue is a very good middle-of-the-road choice for SSDs. Good bang from the buck from a reputable manufacturer.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Get Ryzen 2000

No one should buy a 1060 3GB, RX 580 is a better value anyways.

Get a case that actually has airflow

just buy the SSD later, it's an easy upgrade, just put windows by itself on a small 250GB partition.

Should also get fast dual channel memory no matter what.

Yup! That's why I got a 1x8GB stick and not a 2x4 kit. :D

It says your parts may have compatibility issues. You probably know more than me, but should I be concerned? Thanks!

older B350 boards might not have the needed BIOS update to support Zen+ CPUs, though newegg lists them as zen+ ready so don't worry about it.

Ok! I decided to go with the Ryzen 5 2600 instead of the 1600.

Also, is the GTX 1060 really that bad? I've seen videos of the GTX 1060 getting higher FPS counts in games like Fortnite and Destiny, but could that be due to the game focusing optimizations for NVIDIA GPUs over AMD's GPUs? I'm just more familiar with NVIDIA and I haven't heard much from AMD when it comes to GPUs.

Thanks for the memory recommendation! Will add to my PC over SSD, then get the SSD later. :D

The RX 580 is a better value due to free-sync savings whenever you get a new monitor.

Well more likely a 240GB partition since that's where most of those SSDs top out.
