Hey guys. I'm looking for a laptop for around £120-140. I need it for my web design and wordpress development. I've taken my hard drive (250gb) out of my old laptop that stopped working and the 4gb of ram. Internal storage is fine, I work off an external drive and my NAS.

Cheers.

Which screen size and resolution are you looking for? 13", 15" or 17"? Is 768p or 1280x800 okay or would you prefer 900p/1080p? Any brands you absolutely don't want?

at his price point he really has no option to not like any brand or resolution its hard to get anything workable and above 15" with this little money.

Business grade laptops are very easy to find at this price point. Sandy and Ivy bridge stuff can be had for under 100 quid if you're not picky on condition or batteries.

Alright. From personal experience I can say that the Dell Latitude E63xx series is cheap and decent. I have a E6320 myself that I use for networking, remote login and maintenance tasks. Best €80 I've ever spent on a laptop, lol. The successor, the E6330 is also a decent option.

Alternatives include the Lenovo T420 and T430 series and the HP EliteBook 8460p and 8470p. All of them have options within your budget on eBay and probably gumtree.

What about 2nd i7? What would be the price increase?

Depends. Most laptops I named only have dual core processors, including the i7 models. I don't think a quad i7 will be possible, unless you like junky consumer grade laptops like Acer's 5750G, which offered quad cores as an option. You can upgrade the 8460p and 8470p with quads yourself iirc.
