SWITCH MODE POWER SUPPLY

SINCLR

Hi,

I bought this psu as i am throwing some old parts together to use as a server or something..

It has 2 plugins??.....CRS SWITCHING POWER SUPPLY....

Question is...do i need to worry about the male input? or just plug a cord in as you would any psu and switch it on..

That male input was for monitors. Back in the day, you were able to plug in your monitor to your PC PSU so it turns on at the same time you switch on your computer.

Ohh nice, it's been a while since the last time I saw one of those

The second plug was used to power a monitor, back in those days you only had to plug the PSU to the wall and that was pretty much it, no strips or cables everywhere :D

That'd be pretty neat for them to bring back, and it's certainly something they could do with little added cost.

Problem is some monitors draw 70+ watts so that could be a significant power drain for what? Slightly easier cable management?

It wouldn't have to pull anything from the system, you'd just wire the input and output ports together.

Nowadays monitors are used for more than just PCs so it might not be as simple. Did those PSUs just act as a passthrough? Or did monitors back then back power supplies built in?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I was going for more of the passthrough idea, that way you don't have to use two wall plugs for your desktop and monitor.

Because if it was pass through, it should really matter how many watts a monitor will pull. Guess the only way to find out is to look at the circuit diagram of one. But I'm far too lazy to do that.

Pass through AC for monitor.

Problem is, if the PSU is old enough to have that feature, it's old enough to blow up any second from now.

Referb its ok, i wanted to see if all these bits would work before i went and got a nas server as all it needed was a psu and a couple cables. SHE'S ALIVE!!

OMG I'm about to cry when I see this PSU.

Must be 17-20 years ago since the first time I had it.

I still remember them AT PSUs, where there are 4 wires from the PSU, that connects directly to the front power switch.

That sounds noo good and like a low quality 0W PSU that can't even deliver one Watt within ATX Specification.

Why did you even get this old, low quality thing??

Even the good Enermax of the time are failing left and right...
