Does refresh rate even matter for tv's?

Since most content on cable and in movies is around 30 fps and console gaming being around 60 fps what is the point in buying a 120,240,500,600 hz tv?

Is it all just marketing bs?

It's all marketing. That really is how they get you to buy tv and you can tell your friends the specs that really mean nothing. haha

Some tbh I've seen tv's where the image looks sluggish but those that claim 120hz is a bunch of lies

Everything above 60 Hz is a lie, unless it's a really expensive panel.

Yeah is BS if not playing games on it and I think you need high refresh rate for 3D.

600Hz TVs are Plasma TVs which require ten voltage cycles to display a frame due to the way the technology works, therefore 600Hz = 60FPS in that case.

120Hz LCD TVs aren't native 120Hz like a gaming monitor, and they won't take 120fps input from the source.  The do image processing with the 60fps signal they receive and add extra frames inbetween based on what they think an inbetween frame might look like.  It's supposed to be motion smoothing technology but ends up just making things look like shit and adds a giant delay that you'll notice if you try to use it for gaming.  Most of these TVs have the option to turn this "feature" off though, fortunately.

I like the smooth motion/frame interpolation. It made Last of Us feel smooth though it was at 30fps. The whole reason the console generation lasted so long..
