I have 2 PCs, at seperate locations. The only difference between them is PC 1 has an 8600K at 4.6GHz, Strix 1080 ti, and PC 2 has an 8400, stock speed, with a strix 1080. On both I am trying to hit 3440x1440 @75Hz. On PC 1 I can play games at max or near max settings with no problem, but on PC 2, I have to drastically lower most settings to reach 75 FPS. Let’s take Rainbow Six Siege. On PC 1 I can run it at max settings (T-AA 2x, not 4x, at native render scale), but on PC2 I NEED to run it a lowest settings except for Anti aliasing on FXAA instead of off.

GPUboss says 1080 Ti is ~25% faster than the 1080 and the 8600K  is 15% faster than the 8400 according to userbenchmark. So my brain tells me PC2 should be able to at least run the same games at medium settings no problem. Do i have a dud 1080 (only 1 year old isn’t warranty 3 years?) or something else?

P.s sorry for bad writing, I am angry at how a 1080 can only play at low settings

If its thermal throttling I would highly suggest getting a Arctic Accelero III. I use this for my RX 480 and gas dropped my max temp by 21 degrees.

Main PC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~i7 3770k 4.3ghz Arctic Freezer 33 Esports-Edition

~GTX 1080 MSI AERO (I literally paid £330 for this)

~Samsung 860 EVO 500gb | WD Blue 1TB

~Kingston HyperX 2133Mhz DDR3 4x8gb

~Corsair SPEC-03 Red

Acer Aspire 5338 (2009 Laptop)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Intel Celeron T3000 (Dual-Core @ 1.8ghz)

GM45 iGPU (Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family)

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

Hynix 4GBx2 1066mhz(800mhz)

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (used to be on Vista)

I have no professionalism if you call 1 year with 3d modelling and unity "professional."

I asked my friend "So how many things do you have rgb so far?" He responded, "The only things that I have RGB is my GPU, CPU cooler, Keyboard, Mouse, Mousepad, Laptop, Ram, Motherboard, SSD, case fans, PSU, cheapo-RGB leds, razer phone 2 and "

after 3 games of rainbow, maxed out at 65C (1 hour of gaming)

after increasing some settings, its now max at 71C after 2 hours

EDIT: FPS seems to be smooth not that everything is low and 2 setings are medium, but still lower performace than i expect

also used GPUtweak to set power target to +20% and voltage +30%

Hmm it cant be a temp issue. Have you tried to compare your 1080 with other cards via benchmarks? If your card is underperforming try get it sent back for rma.

Given how the cards clock, temps are a big factor. My 1080 will sit at 2100+ all day at 40/50c or 1700/1800 at 70/80c

may want to actually monitor the system and see what’s its doing, cpu usage and temps, same for ram and gpu. Wouldn’t be hard to find out what’s wrong.

There is a Free version of 3d Mark, but limited to the standard setting (which is perfectly fine).

Your Graphic store (NOT Total Score) should be at around 22000-25000, depending on Clock speed.

Run the Game again

Run MSI Afterburner in Background

Post the Log here please. ^^

That thing gives almost all the Information. maybe your CPU is throttling and bottlenecking the GPU. Maybe the GPU has some issue.

Also to note, in Rainbow Six siege, on PC1, the games is running on maximum settings with the Ultra high texture DLC. only LOD and anisotroppic filtering are lowered (instead of ultra for LOD, its on very high. instead of 16x for filtering, its 8x)

But on PC2, its at almost bare minimum settings, only AA is FXAA instead of off, and LOD is medium instead of low

Temperature is not a problem, both of them max out at 72C after hours of gaming

It's a Strix. There are no thermal issues

Did you clean install drivers? Was there another card in the system? DDU and reinstall fixes a lot of problems

That's an F in the profile pic

Lol just cause it’s a strix doesn’t mean it can’t get hot. Another reason I got rid of mine.

Just to clarify, GPU Boost 3.0 uses temps from the gpu sensor to lower the gpu clocks. This usually happens after ~65C and it will lower your gpu clock and memory clock to help with the heat. An ASUS Strix ROG is not the best cooler out there but i doubt thermal throttling issues would be had with this card. Also his GPU reaches 72C under load suggesting that gpu boost is probably doing something.

i specify strix incase there are software conflicts people know why. My last strix card (970) always crashed when using afterburner, by MSI. now i use GPUtweak and never crashed (by asus)

I don't use any of those. Precisionx only. Don't care much for the other ones, nor have I have ceashing issues because of some gpu software.
