I'm looking for a Photo Viewer for Windows 10 Home 64-bit that's as close as possible to that found on Windows 7. I've tried Microsoft Photos on the Windows Store but once I zoom in or make an image I'm viewing full screen, the other options at the top of the screen disappear & refuse to come back unless I restart the app. I know there's loads of third party programs like this available on the Windows Store & probably elsewhere too. I'd like the communities opinions on some of these though so I don't accidentally get something malicious. Most specifically, I just want a tool to view, zoom, rotate & skip to next photo within that folder. I use Gimp for advanced editing which takes too long to open if I just need to check out an image quickly. So which app do y'all use or recommend?

I have used the Windows 7 photo viewer in Windows 10. There's a way to do it (have to check how I did it), but I don't know if it still works on the newest Windows 10.

Yeah I found out it's a registry edit & although I'm fairly certain TenForums wouldn't advise anything malicious. I'll probably still decline that option found here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/14312-restore-windows-photo-viewer-windows-10-a.html

Thank you, I think I'm just gonna make this work. Although I'm a bit annoyed that since I downloaded & installed Microsoft Photos it wont let me uninstall it now. Or is that actually the app you've instructed me to use?

Microsoft --> photos <-- is the  basic Windows 10 photos application, and can be found in the All Apps list, under P , in the Start menu.

I got annoyed by default viewer making albums without my consent. Even after I disabled that feature. So it got uninstalled. Now I use Basic Photo Viewer which does just what I need. Quick view on items without having to change folder thumbnail size.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just notice the Photos app as a more basic model.

If you use the drop menu on a photos , and open it with the --> Photos <-- app you get the very basic viewer. It.s much better the the Photos in the app list ( start )
