Spectre vulnerability and cpu microde update

What impact does the spectre vulnerability actually have to the average home user not hosting or processing sensitive data? Is it worth updating bios etc to patch this?

Security wise: today nothing, tomorrow nobody can say. That's why intel patched it.

Performance wise: a single digit % in some cases.

Compatibility wise: None, if you have windows update it will probably patch itself without telling you.

 

Its not safe, like running with scisors, but its also not mandatory. One can choose which risks to take.
