Upgrade needed?

Joloch

Hi guys, I'm buying parts for build a new PC based on ryzen, but I don't know if I should upgrade my psu as well. Until now i've been running with an Aerocool Strike-X 600w ("tier 4" in the old Tom's Hardware psu tier list) for 4 years, and using a wattage calculator seems like that would be enough for my new rig, but I don't know if it's worth to change my old psu for a new one. I'm looking for a Corsair TX650M, that's tier 2 in the psu tier list, but if I don't upgrade it I can save some money for other things (non pc related).

Like I said, up until now my Aerocool has been working like a champ even being "tier 4", so I really don't know if after 4 years it will fail eventually and put in risk my new pc. What do you think?

Oh, the specs of my new build:

MoBo: Asus TUF B350M-Plus Gaming

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600

GPU: Asus ROG Strix RX 570 4GB

RAM: ADATA XPG GAMMIX 2 x 8GB 2666MHz CL16

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master MasterAir G100M

SSD: PNY CS900 240GB

HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA200 2TB

Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L

Thanks in advance!

I'd get a new one. Better safe than sorry.

It's not needed in terms of wattage though, if that was more your question.

A TX550M would do fine, just BTW. 650W is excessive for that system. However your old PSU is quite.. old. Not a great unit so I'd replace it.

The EVGA 550G3 can be had for under 50 USD after rebates which is a very good deal for that unit if you can get that.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.

In terms of protection, is there a significant difference between the grey CX650 and the TX650? I can save almost 30 bucks by buying the CX.

Ryzen benefits greatly from fast RAM.

I know, but ram is waaaay too expensive right now. Maybe I'll buy a better set in a year if the prices drop down.

Check the CX650, got it working perfectly with a 290x in my sis's build so that makes it overkill for a 570,  you could use the CX550 instead and you'd still had plenty of wattage left for an upgrade

also you should get the 8GB 570, any brand will do

2666 ram is ok, you could OC it to 2933 or just lower latencies a bit

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

How about a CX550M or a MasterWatt 550? Which one is better in terms of protection?

If you are primarily concerned with protections get a Bitfenix Whisper M or BeQuiet Pure Power 10

Just some bapo nerd from 'Straya
