Should I get a heatsink for my NVME drive?

Is it worth it to get a heatsink for an NVME drive? I saw people using heatsinks for their drive's will it make any difference?

It can, but only where you are doing a TON of read/Write tasks to it to saturate it. Otherwise its really not needed for normal everyday use.

For 99% of users, it's not necessary. Unless you're doing very strenuous random reads and writes all the time, you probably won't see any benefit.

I run some virtual machines and play some games, sometimes exporting videos or streaming that's it. will it be worth it for my case?

You're free to try it out, as the heatsinks are generally quite cheap, and you might even see a small drop in temperatures. However, I don't think it would have any effect on use.

Yes NVME drives get very hot during use.

It's highly recommended you put heatsinks on them or direct air cooling to avoid shortened lifespan.

Not necessarily. Heat sinks are often just a marketing gimmick as those NVMe drives are designed to get hot and will not cause shortened lifespan just by using it as designed.

Nand getting into high 70s-90s is definitely not good for it's lifespan.

People started putting heatsinks on NVME when it was literally getting hotter than a CPU.

If you care about your data, you would know to never let a drive get that hot.

 

Just because it was designed that way doesn't mean it's healthy.

The 8700k also comes with a stock heatsink but why would you use it when it lets your CPU overheat and throttle.

lol, is that really your argument? NVME SSDs are meant to operate at extreme temperatures just because they don't come with appropriate cooling?
