Posted July 9, 2018 I currently have a DAS from Orico. Its a 4 drive system wih red hdds, in raid 10. I have telus fibre optic with 150 mbps. I am wondering if there is a better storage solution for my uses. I am looking for something that will allow me to connect it to multiple computers at once if possible. It would be nice to be able to connect it from another city but not absolutely needed. I am also hoping to get file transfer speeds faster if possible? Many of the files i am transferring will be mostly pictures and video files. Id like a couple alternatives to my current setup. Ive tried a synology nas but seem to only get file transfer max of 12mBs at max, with it usually stuck around 1 to 3 mBs Im not sure if i should go for a better faster das, try for a nas or just throw the drives into the desktop internally. I would be keepin this possible future device attached to the desktop with connections to 2 laptops. I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly... Spoiler What is your budget/country for your new PC? what monitor resolution/refresh rate? What games or other software do you need to run? Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/945794-best-storage-solution-for-me/#findComment-11516324 Share on other sites
 Posted July 9, 2018 In most case the bottleneck is your network gear. If you drive is, you should have look at SSD cache for large array. I have Freenas box and I have tested on many machine and can copy at max network speeds(100mb/s). It also depending what file you are copying, smaller files are usually slower and won't reach max speeds. Right now my server have 4 Ethernet and only one going to network and one dedicated to my PC.
