If I use the sound card at that slot I won’t be able to use the ports.

What sound card do you have?

If it's an entry level one, the on-board audio would probably be better.

You CAN'T just use the other side of a PCI-E slot.

Each of the pins are wired to a specific part of the board -- you'll kill your add-in card, motherboard, and/or CPU if you try to force things in.

e.g. Pin #1 on the PCI-Express slot is +12v power, while Pin #82 on the other side of the slot is Ground.

"Regular" PCI and PCI-Express are not directly compatible with one another.

Size of the slot, pin count, pin arrangement, and power/voltage are different.

That said, a PCI-E X1 card will work in a PCI-E X1, X4, or X16 slot.

Like so:

Hello,

Recently I have moded my case. So that, i can not use the top yellow slot (PCIe 2.0 x 1).

Now I’m wondering if i could use the PCI slot(may be legacy), which is at bottom. Then it will solve my probelm.

One more thing, if i flip my card and put it in bottom yellow area; will it work?? Or should I must put my sound card into red area of PCI slot.

Please help me out. Thanks.

No. PCIe and PCI aren't intechangeable.

You can put it in the PCIe x16 slot (circled green)

What if I use it in the green circled area?

a pcie card won't work in a pci slot, don't try to flip it, it doesn't work that way.

Why not use the pcie 16x slot under that 1x?

I cannot use the PCIx16 as I added a extra fan outside of my case to maintain a good airflow.

What does a fan outside the case have to do with the slot?
