Trusted DisplayPort Cables?

Guest Wyxe

Not sure if this goes in Peripherals or Displays, but here's my question:

I'm trying to find a DisplayPort cable to upgrade from HDMI so I can finally join the rest of the cool kidz in the 144hz club (I've never gone above 60 before). I've searched up and down Amazon, and even briefly looked at Newegg, but all the low reviews make me paranoid about buying one of these cables altogether. Some of them apparently can't do higher than 1080p 60, according to some reviews. Many, many reviews talk about having their screens flicker, and the next biggest group of people have DOA cables. At this point, I'll keep all my chips in Online Retailers, because at least then I could see the specs and reviews--even though I could have a cable in the next hour if I drove to my nearest Walmart. The problem is, I have no idea what to trust. Maybe looking at the negative reviews wasn't a good idea, lol.

Most of you probably use these cables, which ones from which brands would you recommend? (Amazon preferred, but I'll take what I can get). All help is appreciated.

Amazon has a pretty good return policy, just return the cable if it isn't what you need. Just make sure the order is fulfilled by amazon themselves because then the return is completely free.

I figured I would try and get some help here, because I'd rather not return a cable if I don't have to. Speed isn't of the essence, but shipping it here and then back and then here again would take forever (I don't have Prime)

Not exactly the same problem as OP has, but for example, my monitor came with a DP cable, that was not certified and had the DP 20th pin problem, so it would run a feedback voltage back to my GPU, causing me many problems from just not working, to the PC itself not turning on/off properly and since I did not want to buy a like thrice as expensive cable, I went all ghetto on it and snipped out one of the 20th pin that runs the current off it.

I mean it is not the same problem at all, but there are certainly times where not using the cable that comes with the monitor exist.

As far as memory goes, my monitor, the HP Omen (1080p) came with an HDMI cable, not a DP cable, so 144hz was impossible (which I discovered later on) until I ordered a DP cable. At the time, I didn't have a job or money, but once I did have those, I completely forgot about it. Until yesterday, anyways.

No negative reviews and a fair price (the negative reviews that do exist are few, and aren't for the product I want to purchase (I don't want a really long one lol)). Plus, it's on amazon. I'll see if I can't get my mom to order it, since she has Prime and I don't. Get it in two days :).

Well just so you know, it should have come with a DP, HDMI, and USB cable.

I don't have my box anymore, so unless it's in my big tote of cables then I didn't get those cables. Knowing me, I probably did and missed it completely lmao.
