Fuel Filter in Custom Loop

I was wondering if I could use a fuel filter like you see on lawn mowers and install it in a custom loop to filter all the garabage out before putting regular coolant in. I would be using 3/8ths" inner diam. tubing. Thank you in advance.

I think it would be too flow restrictive. Also you're suppose to clean out all the parts prior to use.

The problem is that your water pump is nowhere near as strong as a lawnmower's fuel pump. Unless you put a fuel pump in your cooling loop, it's not really doable.

 

Besides, your water inside the custom loop is far cleaner than fuel, so no need for that either.

Hopefully there is no need for a filter in your loop... Not only would it introduce restriction and new places for potential leaks, it would be a great breeding ground for any bacteria or mold spores that make it in your loop.

 

If you're dead set on getting a filter in your loop, check out some aftermarket filters used on older motorcycles. They usually feature lower restriction mesh filters due to the fact that those older bikes typically didn't have fuel pumps. Just don't try to shove high pressure through them for some reason...

I am afraid I may not be able to get the rads as clean as the need to be.

The reasoning is for making sure the loop is clean before using it with coolant.

Flush it then. That is, water only passes through the radiator once and gets poured out after one cycle.

How much water? It is one 80mm x2 (160mm) rad and a 240mm rad.

Till whatever comes out becomes clean? I dont know how badly ruined are the insides of the radiators.

 

did they hold anything before that makes you want to flush them?

I am getting the parts this week (hopefully).

Simple cleaning method i have used and recommend.

 

Grab your rads, and flush them with boiled tap water.

 

Fill it, leave it a minute, shake, empty into a WHITE CLEAN bowl. (empty the bowl after each flush)

Keep doing this untill u see no particulate in the white bowl.

Once you confident its clean, do 2 final flushs with distileld water.

 

Now, if your using some special coolant in the loop, you going to have to use some kind of prep solution. Like Sysprep or Blitz.

You can setup an external loop with a high flow filter like one used inline for home and just do the radiators to clear them out. However you will want to still shake and agitate them to remove any loose debris.

I was looking at it earlier but I was not sure of how well it filters. I thought I remembered Jayztwocents using a filter but couldn't find it.

if you want just to clean the system to get as much dirt out of it you can, but do not use then the system is running.

I've done it myself just to filter the system, some electrical tape to get it connected to the loop is not a leack free but it lasted for 5 hours

A generic fuel filter, (noname, not branded) cost me around 99c at the gas station

In my experience no matter what you do you will still get gunked up blocks from time to time. Rads are usually ok and it's usually not to gunky unless somthing happens to make the dye precipitate out of a fluid. If you want a pretty colored fluid loop then you will need to Clean here and there. If you go strait distilled water with a piece of silver then you won't need to as much.
