Hey Everyone,

So my Mum is still running a decade old PC with Vista... I think it's time to build her another one :).

I'm pretty sure this is the section for getting help with selecting parts and what-not. Just wondering what kind of components are the ones I should be looking at buying; Help would be much appreciated.

I don't think it'll need any sort of GPU. Just the basic stuff, looking at getting something like:

- An i5 or equivalent;

- 8gb of Ram or higher (DDR4 properly not necessary);

- Got a 120gb SSD but I I'm considering getting a 500gb and just running it with no HDD.

It's going to need everything else because all the components on it are basically useless at this point. So that means I need to get a new motherboard. Want to keep a silent-ish case as well.

Any help with different component selections would be awesome. I'm pretty tech savvy but I don't know if anything new is one the market.

It'll be mainly used for web surfing and MS Office.

And I forgot to tell you blokes that I'm an Aussie so when I say $500 I actually mean around $350 USD or.. well... $500 CAD.

Thanks in Advance.

He said 500 cad which is around 350 usd. Plus you have to flash a new BIOS on that MOBO. And a 450W PSU for a 150W build ?!

The 2200G is actually a quad core this generation and has more than enough integrated graphics for what you'll be doing.

I'd be shocked if you could get fractal case within a $500AUS budget.

What's wrong with her current case anyway? It's just bent metal, unless it's rusty. Replace all the guts, power supply included and it'll be fine, unless it's a proprietary prebuild design. Even then, so long as you're replacing the power supply and the case is designed for a standard ATX power supply, the only difficulty would be in the front header pinout.

Yeah I think you might be right with the Fractal case. The one existing is quite old and has no USB 3 headers...

Thoughts on this setup?

Swapped a couple things around:

The one thing to keep in mind is check reviews and see if people have the updated BIOS for 2000 series compatibility or have a backup plan like a shop that will update it for a few bucks.
