New Gaming Rig (Build or Buy)

I've recently been looking at buying or building a better PC. Currently I have a regular HP Phoenix 810-010. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB, with 16GB ram, and a Intel Core i7-6700 6th Gen.

I am looking for a PC with a NVIDIA GTX 1080 or 1080 ti, with 16 or 32 gb ram, and a good gaming CPU to run everything, maybe a Intel i7-8700K? My budget is still slightly undecided but its anywhere from $2000 to $3500.

As of right now I'm looking at customizing something from OMEN, but I'm willing to build my own if I get a better value for parts. Any suggestions on parts or computers?

Primary PC: OMEN 880-160se / 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8700K / 16GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080ti 11GB / 512GB SSD + 2TB HDD / BU ICTO UMA Z370 Motherboard / 750 W Platinum efficiency power supply.

Secondary PC: HP Pheonix 860-010 / 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700 / 16GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB / 128GB SSD + 2TB HDD / 500 W power supply.

I doubt it, i dont feel like rearranging the whole case, there isnt enough room

Plus the core really wouldnt be able to support all of it, I'd need a newer one to max it out.

The 6700 is still perfectly fine for gaming, no reason to replace it. Should already be over 100fps in most games, an 8700K with an OC might get you 20fps more. Not a big deal for the money. Maybe hold off until next year for potential Ryzen 12 cores.

What's your monitor resolution/refresh rate?

You wont really  gain a whole lot jumping from 6700 to 8700k but if you are looking for max performance then you definitely want an 8700k 1080Ti build.  I have no experience with them so i cannot really recommend anything. . . my preference would be Evga gpu and AsRock or Asus motherboard.

there's 100% no reason to replace your CPU then

Just buy a 32" 4k IPS display for now

Then save your money for the GTX 1180ti or Radeon NAVI w/e and you're all set

you might need a better power supply for the new GPU, and you might want a new case for better airflow when you upgrade the GPU

You don't want a TN panel if you can help it, you can just buy the monitor now and run games perfectly scaled at 1080p until newer/better GPUs come out.

This is the cheapest I'd recommend, though last black Friday there were some 32" IPS displays on sale around $350 or under, maybe wait for a sale on one of those

rumors are in the 2nd half of the year if anything, you could go for a 1070ti if you really wanted an upgrade. those are under $500, a 5 minute OC gets you GTX 1080 performance. should be good for medium-high 4k gaming.

Your CPU is no bottleneck for 60hz gaming in any event.

To be completely honest I really want to build an RGB computer, I've been saving up for a while and can finally afford to pay for it. If I do, I'm most likely going to spend some extra money and get myself an GTX 1080 or an 1080 ti

not worth it right now. 1070ti is the max I'd recommend. best performance for the money in the high end.

If you really want RGB just replace your case with an H500P mesh and buy an RGB CPU cooler, problem solved, money saved.

Thanks, I may swap out some things like the Ryzen 7 2700X for an Intel Core i7-7700K. I also need a HDD for the games so I'll buy the Western Digital 2TB.

did you typo-ed from a 8700K to 7700K? because why would you want to buy a new 7700K in 2018?

that parts list is up to you the important thing is that you have one unified RGB ecosystem (like Aura Sync) to sync up those sweet RGB nectars

Yeah lol i typo-ed. I keep getting mixed up, I've been looking at processor benchmarks for 5 days now constantly, gets a bit confusing and jumbled in my mind. I like the RGB stuff though, I'll keep that.

so in that parts list you have aura sync and corsair iCUE, which iCUE can sync up the RGB on the Asus graphics card as well

make sure you get Asus board if you want Aura Sync

1070ti/1080 are basically the same witch an OC on the 1070ti as it has no boost

a decently cooled 1080ti is like $800, not sure it's worth an extra $350, you don't want the bare minimum cooler like the MSI armor or Zotac Mini on a 1080ti.
