Affordable 10 gigabit switches

Are there any? Even a four port option would be work for me right now.

If you just want straight layer 2 performance the Mikrotik CRS317-1G-16S+RM is a decent play.

Ubiquiti makes some nice enthusiast gear. If you can afford it they have a 16 port 10Gbit switch for $500~600. You'll have to use DAC or fiber optic cable w/ transceivers though.

My apologies for the delay in responding. I posted this originally from bed, and I didn't exactly remember I did. LOL.

I'm looking for an RJ45 solution, and mainly I want to setup a NAS which I can use for, well, mass storage. I do some video editing, and often have source files around 200-300gig which I would like to be able to move around without going grey. Also, I rip most of my blu-rays and serve through PLEX, and I want to be able to stream full 4K content, which a 1gig network is not really viable for.

I will check out your current suggestions (thank you), but wanted to answer the questions as it could impact the suggestions.

Thanks!

When I wanted to go 10Gbit I actually found it less expensive to locate a SFP+ switch, fiberoptic cable and SFP+ transceivers. There is the Netgear XS708Ev2 which is an 8 port RJ-45 10Gbit 8 port switch but it's not exactly "cheap" not to mention you need 10Gbit NICs in all your clients which again won't be "cheap" unless you look into the used market but then you can locate SFP+ gear that's even cheaper. They have an option for DAC cables if you don't want to deal with fiberoptics. You can find 10Gbit SFP+ NICs used for as low as $24/piece.

10gbe copper is fairly expensive. Looking at some switches, especially copper, they range from $550-700.

The XS708Ev2, which is a 8 port copper 10gbe switch costs $675. Now add the price of the NICs, each will cost you $270 per card, although they they come as daul NICs.

Here is an Intel, dual NIC for $157, which is responsible.
