So I thought Lubuntu was the low spec king of operating systems (excluding puppy linux) until I looked at the task manager of Raspbian. God damn, 100MB RAM useage on idle?! I could have multiple tabs open in Chromium and be well under the 1GB RAM limit.

Which is the better supported/optimized operating system for an x86 computer, Lubuntu or Raspbian?

Raspbian only works on the raspberry pi, which has an ARM cpu. so no luck there.

i'd say Lubuntu definitely.

Maybe Arch if you're experienced enough/up for the challenge. Also don't confuse what linux calls used with actual RAM usage (https://www.linuxatemyram.com/ explains it nicely).

Yes Arch Linux is a very good challenge, that very hard to install. A user friendly distro very light is LXLE.

No, you can install it on an X86 CPU. I think it was just originally designed around the ARM architecture, but it can still be run. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-run-raspberry-pis-raspbian-os-on-a-pc/

It's actually not a port of raspian, it's a striped down version of Debian with the pixel desktop. 32bit only and built for x86 architecture from the ground up

System specs:

4790k

GTX 1050

16GB DDR3

Samsung evo SSD

a few HDD's

I'd recommend Void Linux if don't mind a bit of a challange (assuming you are a beginner). It is easier to install than Arch as it has a install script. Void also uses runit instead of SystemD making the Distro a lot more minimal and slightly faster. The ISO is only 324 MB compared to arch which is 571 MB.
