hi, i have 2 * 4 TB WD Red NAS drives in my QNAP NAS, one of them i purchased it brand new and other is used. Used one i have purchased has less usage hours and no problems whatsoever however when its working, its way louder than the other one, way louder i think, check the video below pls. any solutions to make it quite? or i need to change it to a new one?

it could have been dropped.. with used drives you never know. 

 

all i know is that noise in hdd's is a sign it might be breaking..

QNAP has a built in SMART test in the OS that lets you find out the health of a drive. I would highly recommend running that test to see what you’re dealing with.

 

However, if I were you, I wouldn’t bother and immediately replace the drive. Your data should be more valuable than the risk of running a during drive, no? Any HDD that makes a strange noise is a warning for what might be coming. And you are lucky that the drives makes a warning sound since that is not always the case.

 

Have you set up the too drives in RAID?

RAID 0 (hopefully not) or RAID 1? If it is the latter, replacing the drive is just a matter of swapping the old one with the new one.
