Why ryzen 1 series have dropped by a lot in resale prices?

Just to give an example R7 1700 which has an MSRP of $330 now costs $189 on ebay while i7 7700 with the same MSRP doesn't go below $230-240.

Main system (Mini itx 80mm)

i5-7500 | Asrock h110m | Noctua L9i | Realan H80 Case | 8GB 2400 Ram ADATA | M600 SSD | 500 GB Seagate

Other System (Laptop)

i7 3632QM | Toshiba | 8GB Corsair VS RAM | Sandisk SSD PLUS | 500GB Toshiba HDD

Because the ryzen 2 came out and it is much better, so everyone wanted to upgrade to it, selling their old one for cheap.

because intel isn't interested in increasing their market share, so they never make discounts on their discontinued products (normal practice to move the old inventory), which probably also means they don't have any problem selling old stock even at such horrible prices

...because the new series is out. 1xxx series stocks need to be cleared and the only way to sell them is to make them significantly cheaper than the 2xxx chips.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I get it from the Ryzen 2 perspective. But I do not get how intel retains it's value better. Infact ryzen 2 is much less of a jump than intel had from the 7700k to 8700k. Ryzen 2 is like 300Mhz max better. Intel added 2 freaking cores.

probably because those i7 owners have a sore bum so they are trying to get the most out of their little 4 core to upgrade to an ryzen 2/ cofefe lake

I guess that's because 7th gen buyers simple see 'Intel' and buys them?

I have argued with them that that processor is almost worth the price of an 8400, but they just don't listen. Because, hey, they bought it 6 months ago for $300-$330 and people are still selling their 4790s for $200+

4790s avoided the DDR4 price hike arrow, so that's an exception. DDR3 boards for 6th and 7th gen are expensive.

Clearly not for buyers who cares about spending money wisely.

Agreed. I have a secondary machine with 1156 socket and trying to buy a 3770 or even a 2700 would cost me more than 200€.

I think it's just because of Intel's marker dominance and that the casual consumer just sees "i7" and thinks it's something good.

The audience for AMD is smaller (or at least was) so both the people and the retailers are forced into selling for more competitive prices to actually get a sale going.

Maybe this will change in the future since Ryzen is giving AMD a lot of new users but it will porbally take the second hand market quite some time to reflect that change.

Laptop - Omen 15

Blue Box
i5 - 3350p, R9 Nano Fury 4GB HBM, 8gb DDR3 Ram @1600hz

You could always buy from the US where there are tons of sellers and then forward via forwarding services like shipito.

Thankfully I'm not in a desperate need. I have a decent i5-3350p in that machine now. I think that at this point Ali Express would also be less expensive and the time to get something would be same.

Could be! I buy stuff from all over the world including DE, US, and the UK. So if you can get an excellent deal shipping is just about $10-20. Aliexpress doesn't give out cheap items unless they are more than reasonably old. There are some good deals on Xeon chips there, but they cant match random desperate seller on ebay or one with tons in inventory.
