Double Layer Intake?

I was watching this LTT video and the server fans mentioned there made me wonder... can you magnify your intake by literally stacking intake fans behind your intake fans (provided you have the room to do so)?

 

Does anyone have experience with server builds, or the principles of airflow relevant here? I'm not intending to do this myself, I'm more or less curious about the possibilities.

Stacking fans don't increase air flow or performance but if you have counter rotating fans like these the blades spin in opposite directions which help channel air.

I think a second purpose to stacking fans in a server chassis is redundancy. Fan burns out it doesn't drastically impact the servers ability to remain cool.
