8350 should be a fantastic upgrade. And it'll run BF4 well... as long as your problem isn't caused by another issue entirely.

I've been playing BF4 on an FX-6300 and it's handled full 64 player servers no problem.

If it is..... then ill be straight back to the forums!!

Every once in a blue moon, there's a server that just lags to hell and back. I was just playing on one of those servers earlier today. Completely random... random maps when it happens. Sometimes, it's just the server. (Other people were complaining and the lobby was only half full by the end of the game).

So if you're sure that's not the problem, then a new CPU would probably fix it. I did read some reviews that the 4170 doesn't have great threaded performance, and I know BF3 and 4 are optimized for that.

"A picture is starting to form here... I wonder if it's accurate? Some pieces don't quite seem to fit. Or maybe I just don't like the way it looks."

Yes i've posted a pic higher up of my usage while playing a game, and its clearly the cpu that cant keep up

Hi guys!

I've just received BF4 as a Christmas present, installed it all, started playing on multi-player and it was unplayable, even on the lowest settings I could not play it at all, fps is way to low, to play comfortably. So I thought, I'd better load up the single player see if its the same story, its not, its smooth, even on medium its completely playable compared to multiplayer, with an occasional dip which is hardly noticeable, maybe a couple of fps, not much really, but its nothing I cant live with. So my main question is, which component is creating the horrific performance for multi-player, my CPU or GPU? Which needs upgrading the most?

Specs:

Motherboard - Asus M5A97

CPU - AMD FX-4170

GPU - GTX 560ti

Ram - 16gb Kingston DDR3 1600mhz

If you need any more specs then please let me know!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean it's unplayable? How many fps? My pc is worse than your and I can play smoothly enough. I have a phenom II x4 965 @4.1 ghz , a hd 6850 2 gb @935 mhz, 4gigs ram corsair vengeance 1600 mhz and win64bit. I play 1680x1050 all low with an average of 70 fps (all maps but Shanghai, in that shitty map I have an average of 50-55 fps)

I dont know how many fps as the osd from msi afterburner doesnt seem to want to work. But its unplayable for me. You can see that my cpu is maxing out and i dont know why, so im getting an 8350 to solve the problem :)

That's really unbalanced :o

Well, in my case it was about getting new base hw since in previous build GPU was newest part (with PSU and case). Next year its maybe time to get new GPU if I have money for it and real need.

Well the 8350 has been installed and it hasn't fixed the BF4 problem, but for some reason after about 5 mins of lag it sorts itself out, so im just guessing its the servers and the optimisation :)

Don't mind lag when entering servers. If it lags in the middle of gaming then something is wrong. I think I'm so used to join lag I don't even mind it. Besides it takes few mins to check situation and decite what role to play.

Seems like I've gotten ridden of the problem now! I done a bit more research and discoverd that the cores have been parked for BF4 (not sure how to write it, but the cores were parked and haven't been allowed to use all of the power).

So I found a fix on YouTube by JayzTwoCents and it's solved it, I unparked the cores and there's no more jitter, or lag at the start, I'm still glad I upgraded however, as I don't think my old 4170 would of worked even if I did unpark the cores, I'm a very happy gamer now :) time to think if a new Gpu upgrade now ;)
