Pros:

  • Got rid of Killer (bless the lord)
  • Gave us back soldered RAM (did NOT see this coming, someone smacked somebody on the Blade team)
  • Vapor chamber full cover heatsink (this is nice)
  • Webcam on TOP (copy this XPS15)
  • Finally stopped using the cancer HDT heatsinks

Cons:

  • Oh fucking dear lord Razer's history of QC makes me terrified of their heatsink construction
  • Could end up like the Razer Blade Pro vapor chamber disaster
  • The fins look tiny compared to what they want to put in
  • 1070 Max Q seems like a bad idea without a full LM mod (even then still looks like a terrible idea)
  • It is going to be power throttled as FUCK on the 1070 one, I can feel it already. 200w power adapter tells me they went the Aorus X5 MD way of saying fuck you power, smaller brick is better.

I think they hired a new team for the Blades because the I give you back DRAM slots is something the old Blade team would have never done.

you are using a razer blade from 2015? is that even safe to use? it is probably really rusty by now, if you cut yourself while shaving, you might catch tetanus. (jokes aside) i think... that the 1070 is there only and name, and is possibly downclocked to avoid power and thermal limits? not sure, but this sounds kinda fishy to me.

^^my thoughts too. Also mobo disaster

IMO it will have the same issues with the previous Blade 14. We'll wait for reviews

Looks like a decent cooling solution. Let's see whether the mobo disaster still exist.

Someone posted some test results of 1070 max-q model on a China forum. Here it is (it only shows contents from the original poster) *Not official

Check result of the stress test and hard drive test on pictures below. Note that the Samsung NVME driver might not have been installed, which leads to lower R/W performance.

Text version of stress test:

In gaming mode,  after 10 minutes of the test, AIDA64 stress FPU only + FurMark at the same time

The CPU keeps at under 90 ℃ while keeping at about 44-45 watts while the GPU core frequency is at ~911mhz and keeps at 84 ℃

The CPU reaches a maximum temperature at 100 ℃ so the temperature wall is not sure while there seems to be a temperature wall of GPU at 85 ℃. Don't know if it is adjustable by tools like Nvidia Inspector.

While huge heats burst out from dies, the keyboard still keeps rather cool, and much cooler than previous 14-inch models. Air flows into the chassis from not only the bottom but also the keyboard gaps, thus the WASD area would feel almost no heat (and a little bit cold!)

No noticeable coil whine, but the fans drive crazy on gaming mode. Loud and sharp as hell as described, but have not measured.

Hmm kinda mediocre IMO. Prime95 will surely murder the cooling system

Hope the mobo issue is solved
