My old 3770 build, is it time to upgrade yet?

Hi all, long time Linus subscriber, first time posting (and sadly not bragging)

This is the second PC Tower I have built.  After building my first AMD 64x Dual Core tower in 2007 and learning about computers similar to how Linus grew up with PC's I tried to future proof this system a few years ago.  This tower still holds up great with everything, starting to think about a complete upgrade when the time is right.  I saw on Facebook today that Linus was dusting off an old PC so I decided to give mine a dusting too.  I take my PC to my mates about twice a week so cable management is non-existing.

why do you have the R9 270x when you have a GTX 1050ti? o_O

and also if you're only planning on upgrading the motherboard and CPU and keeping the graphics card then no, it's not time to upgrade, unless you use your PC for things other than gaming and you feel like you need a faster CPU then sure :)

but if you wanna upgrade everything I would wait till Nvidia releases their new GPU's :) it's a fantastic time for CPU's aswell you would get a massive upgrade.

Yeah, I'd say it is. You might wanna keep that GPU though, for now, until Nvidia releases the 1100/2000 line of GPUs.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

GPU -> CPU/Motherboard/RAM, those things can wait as PC parts are stupidly expensive.

I would say it is almost time to upgrade, but I would focus more on the GPU first, before the CPU, unless you're not gaming much or don't need much GPU power.

You can also upgrade that monitor to a nice 1440/4k IPS from a 1080p 27"  TN..

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Thanks for the quick reply, when I get a few grand I will surely build something that meets or exceeds my requirements.

well when it comes time for you to upgrade your GPU, be a bit sad seeing the CPU bottleneck it to hell with newer games..

just use the 270X for obs encoder and 1050ti for gaming, would only want a bigger cpu to put the load onto x256, also the 290X is better for Tomb Raider and a few other games ;)

Amen to that.

I do like "Project Riptide" from "Pauls Hardware" but I would prefer a build into a Thermaltake Core W200 case to last another 10 years ;):o
